Sweet Tweet

At the age of 12 (or so), I tried board-sailing and totally failed. I had no sense for how the mechanics of the sail and the wind worked together to point my board in any given direction. Then I got in a sailboat which, for whatever combination of reasons, made sense of the whole sailing process.

After a demo and discussion about the social tagging facilities in Traction TeamPage earlier this month, Paula Thornton experienced a similar learning process:

Seeing the social tagging implementation in Traction enabled Paula to quickly understand how to use tags in Gmail. And while she learned a few things from me about tagging strategies, I finally "saw the light" about twitter style micro-blogging.

In particular, it is a handy way to get out a thought, to keep it around for your own recall, or as part of a wider "discussion" that may span blogs, wikis and other social networking environments. While "tweets" don't have a whole lot of "state" on their own, once referenced by a blog post like this, they join a wider communication context and community.

In a less stateful, but still useful, way, one of our customers integrates a Twitter view into his Traction profile to provide a useful view of his current status and location. Read the NHS Customer Story

I'm look forward to finding more use cases for micro-blogging and how it can be weaved into the fabric of blogs, wikis, tagging and discussion.
